People who left the software industry, where did you go and are how is it?
I’m curious about people who pivoted away from software, maybe due to AI or layoffs or anything else.
What did you decide to do and how is it working out?
What’s up with brilliant techies being flat broke
If AI makes us so much more productive, why is everyone scared instead of making bigger plans?
i can't believe software is dead
it's a shame because i spent all these years getting good at solving hard problems
sucks that those skills aren't applicable to anything else
The amount of "boot .dev is so much better than my college classes" continues to go up as a percentage of comments every year
I wonder how much longer society will continue to tolerate shitty, overpriced, non-career-focused higher education
things the technical interview actually tests:
can you invert a binary tree under pressure
can you narrate your thinking while panicking
can you pretend the whiteboard isn't slippery
can you accept the lowball without your face moving
Is FAANG still leetcoding for interviews?
Coding is dead.
Support is dead.
Marketing is dead.
Software engineering is dead.
So what the hell are we supposed to do now?
- Mass layoffs
- Hiring freezes
- AI writing 90% of the code
- PERM and H-1B uncertainty
- Entry-level jobs disappearing
- Companies demanding 10 years of experience for junior roles
- 6/7 interview rounds for below average salary
Terrible times to be a software engineer
coding is dead
marketing is dead
customer support is dead
software engineering is dead
what the hell are we supposed to do
Only an engineer survives this AI era
Not a frontend dev, not a backend dev
Senior developers are getting laid off.
Junior developers can’t even get interviews.
So who’s actually is getting hired?
The rate at which people are quitting their software engineering careers is insane.
Some are switching to tech fields outside software, while others are leaving tech entirely.
