Digital Voting

We could have digital voting, for ideas, beyond the 3-yearly referendum. -Why not?

Ballot by paper is outdated.

Social media has proved to have regular use.
Why not vote for ideas, and the government in power observes all of these ideas, and the popular ones, and implements them?

Today’s world demands faster responses to emerging needs, moreso than holding to election promises 4 years past.

Realising it:
A platform where people can post ideas, people vote for them. The most popular ones get taken on by government or we simply re-elect a new government when the next triennial election comes along.

What do you think?

I'm opposed to digital voting becayse it's more vulnerable to fraud.

digital banking is more vulnerable to fraud too, yet you don't go to the bank physically anymore. It's definitely harder, but the benefits of it outweight the fraud issue.

Different problems and actually digital banking is less vulnerable to fraud on technical level. Social engineering surface is bigger.

Online banking is secure for same reason it won't work for voting. Digital banking is secure against fraud, since digital processing allows vast chain of processing log and each step can be cryptographically signed to mark who did what in a very hard to forge way.

Problem is: to maintain secret ballot one can keep no records of the progress of the individual ballot. If one does, one just broke secret ballot.

Definition of secret ballot being: No one including the voter must be able to prove how a voter voted. Meaning even on voter fully wanting to voluntarily and with all means and information in their possession must not be able to prove how they voted.

Since if voter can choose to prove after ward how they vote, they can choose to sell their vote. Vote selling being possible is a really really bad idea.

All the ways all other digital processing handles chains of custody and process integrity is attach track numbers, error check codes and/or digital signatures to the core information actually stored/processed.

Which again is illegal to do to maintain secret ballot.

yeah that's why you need hybrid system. Allow electronic voting only for the people who vote publicly.

We do that today in a parliament. There representatives vote publicly and receive extra protection in the eyes of the law With the internet, there is no reason why this could not be extended to millions of people who are ok with their votes being public.

FOr normal citizens we would keep the paper ballots.

IMHO the ideal is something in between. Keep paper ballots, but hold elections every month. You can recast your vote every month if you want to, but typically people only cast it once in a decade and their votes is assigned anonymously to the party they voted a decade ago This saves time for voters and the state institution and makes it easier to change your preference every month.
